What's coming up in the next few months?

This year we're planning a mix of activities, including paintballing, bowling and a whole lot more ... keep checking this website for dates. If you're new to diabetes or you've never come to any of our events before, please get in touch as we'd love to meet you. Family and friends most welcome!

Sunday 16th May: Staying Positive Workshops

We're running three workshops for our 12-17 age group who have Type 1 diabetes. The idea is to provide support and information about living with diabetes, for example coping at school, away from home and with friends. Our workshops will be informal, creative, interactive and fun, and there will be Magic, Origami, Nintendo Wii and Drama workshops on offer! The third and final workshop is on Sunday 16th May from 12-4pm at Courtlands Hotel, 15-17 The Drive, Hove.

Email us if you would like further information or you think you might like to come along, and have a look at the staying positive programme.

General Meetings in 2010

Come and join our lively evening meetings, where we'll be exchanging information, discussing topical issues, and meeting friends old and new.

All will take place at the New Madeira Hotel, 19-23 Marine Parade, Brighton. Please arrive at 7.15 for a 7.30 start. Refreshments - tea, coffeee, biscuits - are on the house!

Tuesday 11th May Drs Moira Harrison and Wendy MacFarlane from the University of Brighton Diabetes Research Group will be talking about Islet Cell Research. Feel free to ask questions and raise your concerns about this poineering area of research.

Tuesday 13th July Jo Matthews, Commissioner for long term conditions, NHS Brighton and Hove, is the person who is responsible for care of people living with diabetes in our area. It will be a great opportunity to ask what is planned for the future with regard to facilities, treatment, and developments.

Tuesday 14th September Jackie Fosbury, our local Diabetes Psychotherapist, will be talking about psychological support for people living with diabetes, especally relevant to those newly diagnosed or those struggling to manage. How can psychotherapy help? What is it? How long do you have to wait for appointments? Who can benefit?

Sunday 13th June: Walk The Extra Mile

Come and 'Walk The Extra Mile' either for fun or to raise funds for Diabetes UK. Register at Preston Park Brighton from 1pm. Robin Cousins MBE who has lived in Brighton for some time and is a personal friend of one of our members, will be adding a bit of glamour to our event, and he'll be starting the walk at 2pm. For more details contact us.
