Wii-mbledon 2008
Wimbledon 2008 may have belonged to Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams, but the Brits came up trumps with 14 year-old Laura Robson in the girls' tournament. The question on everyone's lips thereafter though was this: who would emerge triumphant in a slightly different venture into the world of sporting greatness? Namely Wii-mbledon 2008!

The Brighton Diabetes Group hosted a virtual tennis tournament at The Providence Pub, Western Road, Hove over two Sundays in July to find the ultimate champion on the Nintendo Wii's 'Wii Sports' game. 42 people entered to compete for the title, the glory and the £100 prize at the end - but the main focus was on fun and fundraising for a good cause.

Through two furious evenings and plenty more hotly-contested matches, Frazer O'Connor proved himself worthy of the crown, with Max Miele in second place. A grand total of £294 was raised following registrations and donations. This amount will firstly offset costs of the event and the rest will be donated to Diabetes UK.

Our thanks go to Sally and Craig at The Providence for allowing us to raise money for Diabetes UK for no cost whatsoever and also for donating some bottles of wine for runners-up.
