Orbing for Diabetes

So, diabetes shouldn't stop you doing what you want, right? Even if that includes climbing into a giant inflatable ball and getting pushed unceremoniously down a hill on what would have otherwise been a quiet Sunday afternoon!

The concept of this is called 'orbing' and twenty-two thrill-seeking fundraisers took part in a sponsored 'orbathon' on Sunday 23rd August to raise money for vital diabetes research - specifically, islet-cell transplants which aim to replace the islet-cells in a person with Type 1 diabetes to either reduce the liklihood of hypos or remove the need for injections for a time.

Pair-by-pair, fundraisers lept inside the giant spheres, were strapped in for safety reasons and then took the plunge by rolling half-a-mile down Devil's Dyke in Hove! What ensued was a rollercoaster-ride to the finish for participants and much laughter from those watching from the sidelines!
Early estimates indicate that we will have raised around £1400 for iselet-cell research and we will be kept up-to-date on progress of the research project at regular intervals throughout 2010.

Thanks to all that took part during the day, including Andy and Bethan for coordinating the 'orbers' and Paul and the team from Orb360 for making this a hugely enjoyable and worthwhile event.
We want to put the 'fun' into 'fundraising' so if you've got a madcap fundraising idea, please contact us via the link at the top of the page!
