Fundraising for Diabetes
We have recently held a variety of fundraising events to benefit a variety of diabetes-related causes and set out two different outcomes for our efforts:
- Diabetes fundraising: proceeds from this type of fundraising will go to specific projects organised by Diabetes UK, which cover the likes of research into diabetes, care and support. We will always specify which project an event is raising money for
- Group fundraising: being a voluntary and therefore non-profit group, we will occasionally hold events purely to raise money for the group. This will go purely towards group expenses (including the hire of our meeting space, printing of materials etc)

Recent events:
- A dress-down day at Legal & General, Hove, raised almost £2800 which has been donated to an islet-cell transplant research project, supported by Diabetes UK
- A charity concert held by Brighton Chamber Choir raised over £400 for the local group
- We raised £98 by holding a print sale at The New Madeira Hotel in March
- We raised over £2500 for Diabetes UK with our Walk in the Park, in summer 2007
If you would like to raise money for diabetes in any way, check out Diabetes UK's fundraising ideas to get those creative juices flowing! We welcome ideas of all kinds, so please get in touch if you would like to get involved.
Fundraising Tips:
- If you work for a company, large or small, ask if they will sponsor your event - some larger organisations have charity schemes in place and will sometimes match any money you raise!
- Think of friends, family members, colleagues etc - do they have a particular skill that could be useful in fundraising? Do they work for an organisation that might be interested in holding a charity event? Do some thinking and ask!
- Sponsorship doesn't have to end locally - if you have friends or family across the country (or even around the world!), they can still donate money to your event at the click of a button!
